Mark W. Viel is a 1978 graduate of the Detroit College of Law.

Since 1979 he has practiced in west central and northwestern Michigan, restricting his practice to matters involving workers' compensation and social security disability claims.

Because of his vast experience in these areas, he has been a featured speaker at presentations/seminars sponsored by such diverse groups as the National Business Institute, Michigan Department of Rehabilitation, Michigan Workers' Compensation Bureau, the United Auto Workers, the American Federation of State and Municipal Employees, Michigan Chamber of Commerce and various other private business presentations.

In addition to being a member of the State Bar of Michigan, Mr. Viel is also a member of the Michigan Trial Lawyers Association.  Mark Viel is an elected member of the State Bar of Michigan’s Workers’ Compensation Section Council, as well as a member of NOSSCR (National Organization of Social Security Claimant’s Representatives).

An avid outdoorsman, and lover of nature, Mr. Viel can usually be found commuting between his offices in Big Rapids and Traverse City─unless it's the season opener for trout fishing or deer hunting.

He and his wife, Laura, have three children and reside near Big Rapids, Michigan.

Paralegal—Marie has worked as a paralegal for the Law Office of Mark W. Viel, PC since 1979.

If you are a new claimant, chances are that you’ve talked with Marie at some point, as she handles the processing and intake of all new clients for the law office. Marie assists Mr. Viel in almost every aspect of case/file handling, from initial claim filing to prepping cases for trial. Marie works Monday through Friday.

Legal Assistant—Dawn has worked as a legal assistant for the Law Office of Mark W. Viel, PC since 1999.

Dawn is single-handedly responsible for the scheduling of depositions in work comp cases, ordering of medical records prior to depositions and setting up telephone conferences for Mr. Viel to speak with physicians. She also handles all accounting and bookkeeping responsibilities for the office. Dawn works Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Legal Assistant—Maggie has worked as a legal assistant for the Law Office of Mark W. Viel since 2003.

Maggie is another jack-of-all-trades for the law office, and hers is probably the first voice
that you will hear when you call the office. She is also responsible for transcribing all of Mark’s dictation, case law/other miscellaneous research for Mr. Viel, and prepping Social Security files prior to hearing. Maggie works Monday through Friday.

Legal Assistant—Jolene has worked as a legal assistant for the Law Office of Mark W. Viel since 2006.

Jolene is single-handedly responsible for keeping track of the outstanding medical bills for all of our workers’ compensation cases. She also sends out our court date notice letters, and IME examination letters. Jolene works Tuesdays and Thursdays.
